If you live by the sword, you’ll die by the sword – NDC’s Bissiw Hawa reacts to Koomson’s assault

Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw, CEO of the Minerals Development Fund and National Women’s Organiser for the NDC, has justified the attack on former Fisheries Minister, Hawa Koomson, during the chaotic Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun held on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Bissiw suggested that Koomson’s own political history of violence may have played a role in what transpired in an interview with Channel One TV’s Fauzu Masawudu,
“What didn’t Hawa Koomson do? What I’m trying to say is that violence begets violence. If you live by the sword, you’ll die by the sword,” she stated.
The comments follow reports that Hawa Koomson and NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie were physically assaulted by a group of unidentified men at the St. Peter’s Society polling station during the rerun, which was conducted across 19 polling centers.
Bissiw accused Koomson of having previously led similar acts of intimidation against her.
“I was beaten because she led thugs to come and beat me up. Has she forgotten?” she asked.
Dismissing claims that the NDC orchestrated the attack, Bissiw implied the incident could be rooted in internal party conflict within the NPP.
“Nobody sent anyone to go and beat her. As far as I am concerned, it may even be an internal something that they visited on her,” she said.
Despite the violence, Bissiw claimed the rerun itself was largely calm from the NDC’s perspective, insisting her party had no incentive to interfere in the process.
“This is very peaceful. We are taking the day, and we do not have any need to destroy the elections because we are winning,” she added.
