If you’re serious about cutting cost, close down the fuel depot at the Castle—NPP MP to Mahama

Akyem Swedru Member of Parliament Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko has challenged the president to close down the fuel depot at the Osu Castle if he’s serious about cutting fuel allowances to political appointees.

President John Dramani Mahama, in a statement issued on July 15, 2025, announced that he has scrapped fuel allowances for political appointees.

He, in the statement, stated that the decision to scrap fuel allowance is to save the country some money and also because leadership has to also sacrifice if they are calling on the people to sacrifice.

But the Member of Parliament believes that if the President is serious about saving the country some expenses, he has to shut down the fuel depot completely.

Making his point known in a Facebook post she said “John Dramani Mahama Mr. President it’s good you have directed for the cancellation of fuel allowances for Government officials. Mr. President the problem is not about the cancellation but rather taking a bold decision to shut down the fuel depot completely at the castle is what’s going to make significant savings for this country.

Fuel allocations to officials is just about 10% of the cost the state spend on fuel. About 90% of the costs the state spends on fuel is at the fuel depot at castle. If indeed you want to save this country significantly then you must shut down the castle fuel depot. The weight of the costs of fuel the state is incurring is at the castle and not at the Ministries or the Agencies”.
