IGP must respect electoral will – Annoh-Dompreh warns over Ablekuma North

Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has issued a stern warning to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) over the prolonged delay in declaring the Ablekuma North parliamentary results, saying the peace the IGP currently enjoys may soon vanish if action isn’t taken.

“If he doesn’t do it, he will never know peace… He will not be happy in this country. That one I assure you.”

The comments came shortly after the Minority caucus marched to the Police Headquarters to officially petition the IGP over the unresolved matter. While Annoh-Dompreh remained tight-lipped on the exact actions they may take, his language left little doubt about the seriousness of their intent.

“What do you mean by he will never know peace? What’s my line of action? I can’t disclose that to you. But he will not be happy in this country.”

He described the situation as deeply troubling, especially for a democratic country like Ghana.

“It’s been six months. It has never happened… I cannot recall anywhere in our body politics where this kind of delay has occurred.”

Despite the veiled warning, the MP said the Minority was still trying to be reasonable.

“We’ll give the IGP a reasonable time. We respect him. He knows what is reasonably an appropriate time, and we are hoping he’ll act within that.”

In a sharp critique of the ruling party, Annoh-Dompreh accused them of hypocrisy.

“When we compromised and allowed the results to be declared in their favour, they were happy, they were applauding. Now, when it goes against them, they say they won’t agree.”

He closed with a clear message: the people of Ablekuma North are watching — and waiting.

“They are shipping a lot of people… some of them that I represent. The people of Ablekuma North have had to shift to a civil approach. They are chasing pro-normal rewards.”
