IGP opens two-day crime officers’ conference to boost investigations

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has opened a two-day Regional Crime Officers’ Conference aimed at strengthening investigative work across the Ghana Police Service.
The conference, which began on Thursday, December 18, 2025, brought together Crime Officers from all 25 police regions, along with directors of selected units from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters. Members of the Police Management Board were also in attendance.
Addressing participants, the IGP stressed the central role Crime Officers play in modern policing, particularly as criminal activities become more complex and sophisticated.
He said today’s crime trends require advanced investigative methods, heightened professionalism and continuous training to ensure effective law enforcement.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving investigative standards within the Service, noting that stronger investigative capacity is critical to staying ahead of criminals and rebuilding public trust in the police.
The Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, in a welcome address, urged participants to actively engage in the conference discussions.
She underscored the link between investigations and successful prosecutions, pointing out that “the success of criminal prosecution largely depends on effective criminal investigations.”
The conference is expected to focus on best practices, emerging crime trends and strategies to enhance the operational effectiveness of crime officers nationwide.
