IGP promotes officers for foiling robbery, rescuing victims

Two Ghana Police Service officers have been promoted for their bravery in rescuing robbery victims and arresting seven suspects in a swift operation across the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.

Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka of the Anyaa District Command has been recommended for the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy. At the same time, Constable Joseph Akondoh has been elevated to Lance Corporal.

The promotions follow an August 7, 2025, snap check at Ablekuma Borkorborkor, where the officers and four Community Police Assistants intercepted a green pickup around 12:30 a.m. Two passengers jumped from the vehicle’s bucket, crying for help. They revealed they had been attacked the night before during a robbery involving their 5,400-litre fuel tanker near Nsawam.

The officers rescued the victims, arrested one suspect on the spot, and—through follow-up intelligence—nabbed six more in the Eastern Region, recovering the stolen tanker and other evidence.

On August 8, the IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Police Management Board honoured the team at the Police Headquarters. He praised their professionalism and urged all personnel to emulate their vigilance, promising that exceptional service will always be recognised.
