President Mahama sacks IGP Dampare, replaces him with COP Yohuno

President John Dramani Mahama has sacked Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector General of Police (IGP) amid ongoing discussions on security sector reforms.

In his place, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has been appointed as the new IGP and is set to be sworn in on Friday, March 14.

While no official explanation has been provided for Dr. Dampare’s removal, sources indicate that the decision is part of a broader restructuring agenda within the Ghana Police Service.

Appointed in 2021, Dr. Dampare played a pivotal role in introducing key policing reforms, including community engagement initiatives and strengthening internal discipline within the service.
