I’ll put my hand in the fire for him – Agbana backs Sammy Gyamfi in dollar gift row

Edem Agbana, former National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has mounted a passionate defence of Sammy Gyamfi in the wake of the dollar gift controversy that has sparked widespread public debate.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana and monitored by MyNewsGH, Agbana recounted his close working relationship with Gyamfi, highlighting personal traits that, to him, make the allegations of impropriety hard to believe.

“Sammy is one of the most generous people I know. Even with the little he has, he shares. But more importantly, he’s someone who guards his integrity fiercely,” Agbana shared.

The former youth leader went further to describe Gyamfi as a principled young man who, during their joint political activism, constantly resisted tempting offers that could compromise his position.

“He was always fighting the NPP government and its corruption, and he never once budged, even when offers were made to him behind closed doors.”

Agbana emphasized that the backlash Gyamfi faced was more emotional than legal. “There is no code of conduct or law that has been breached here,” he insisted, adding that the public anger was rooted in higher expectations of the NDC rather than any proven misconduct.

In his view, the gift incident should be seen as an unfortunate byproduct of Gyamfi’s habitual generosity, not evidence of wrongdoing.

“His generosity became his vulnerability,” Agbana said, before reaffirming his faith in Gyamfi’s character. “I’m ready to put my hand in the fire for him.”
