I’m alive, ignore the rumors – Weija-Gbawe MP speaks out on death hoax

Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has reacted to unsettling rumors about his alleged death that surfaced online with condolence-themed posts bearing his photo and captions like “Rest Well.”

Brushing off the claims, the NPP MP said, “I think you have to ignore the rumours and know that, by God’s grace, I am alive. I do not know where the rumours are coming from, but somebody mentioned to me that it was because of an interview I granted.”

He clarified that during the said interview, he did not endorse the idea that “Rest Well” implied someone had passed. “I said that was the interpretation the individual placed on it,” he added.

The MP’s comments came in light of his recent reaction to the arrest of NPP activist Mohammed Zakou, who was picked up over a post about Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Shaib defended the activist, stating his message was misunderstood and not malicious. “The guy’s statement said that the Vice President is like a mother to him… He believes she is tired and should take some rest.”

He also questioned the legality of Zakou’s detention beyond 48 hours, arguing, “Even if he had said rest in peace, must he be kept in custody for more than 48 hours?”

Shaib called for calm, urging the public to disregard unfounded reports and rely on verified information.
