I’m happy the cedi is performing well – NPP’s Adomako Kissi admits

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has expressed cautious optimism about the recent performance of the Ghanaian cedi, urging Ghanaians to appreciate the broader economic context behind the currency’s appreciation.
Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV monitored by MyNewsGh, Dr. Kissi acknowledged the positive turn the cedi has taken in recent weeks, noting that such progress ultimately benefits everyone, regardless of political affiliation.
“I’m happy if the cedi is performing well. It impacts all of our lives. So I’ll not sit here and say that I’m not happy that the cedi is appreciating.”
However, he was quick to caution that the currency’s performance is the result of several factors and should not be viewed in isolation. He stressed the need for a frank and honest conversation with the public.
“But let’s be very frank with Ghanaians that it is a sum of the total of many factors.” In taking a swipe at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kissi pointed out that back in 2017, when the NPP assumed power and the dollar performed well for nearly a year, the NDC credited the improvement to policies they implemented in 2016.
He argued that by the same logic, some of the current wins should be attributed to initiatives spearheaded by the NPP government.
“When we assumed power in 2017, for almost a year when the dollar was doing well, the NDC kept reminding us that it was actions they took in 2016.
” So if today we are also reminding the NDC that when it comes to reserving more gold—that idea was touted—it’s not a new idea… but it was retreated, Ghanaians were reminded about it.”
