I’m innocent of all charges – Ameyaw-Akumfi

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has publicly declared his innocence in the ongoing legal proceedings related to the controversial Sky Train project.
In a personal statement issued on Friday, May 30, the former Minister of Education confirmed that he has pleaded not guilty to all charges, affirming his commitment to transparency, accountability, and the principles of justice.
“I welcome the opportunity to clear my name and have full confidence in my innocence,” he stated.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is among former GIIF officials being prosecuted over the stalled $2.3 billion Sky Train initiative. Launched in 2019 to modernise urban transport in Ghana, the project was later suspended due to procurement concerns and doubts about its financial viability.
Describing the aftermath of his arraignment as “challenging,” the respected academic and statesman expressed heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support he has received.
“I have been deeply moved by the outpouring of solidarity,” he said, adding that the encouragement from family, close friends, and his legal team has fortified his resolve.
He extended special gratitude to former Assin Central MP, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, for what he called “Santaclausian brotherliness,” and praised Techiman South MP, Hon. Martin Kwaku Agyei Mensah Korsah, for his unwavering support, which he said “exemplifies the enduring strength of family ties.”
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, a prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), remains a respected elder statesman with a distinguished public service record, including roles in academia and governance.
