I’m not the investigator; ask National Security

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defense and Interior Committee, has fired back at critics demanding proof of alleged cocaine smuggling on a Ghana-bound aircraft, saying it’s not his job to investigate.

Speaking in an interview on Kumasi’s Pure FM monitored by MyNewsGh, the Assin South MP made it clear that any effort to confirm or deny such a sensitive issue lies squarely in the hands of National Security, not Parliamentarians like himself.

“I have not said this for attention. I’m not making noise. I’ve raised a legitimate concern, and it’s up to National Security to tell us whether there’s cocaine on that aircraft or not,” he asserted.

When the host suggested he collaborate with his fellow Minority MPs to provide supporting evidence, Fordjour dismissed the idea.

“I’m not the investigative body here. I don’t have the authority or the resources to track aircrafts or run drug tests. That responsibility belongs to our National Security apparatus,” he said.

He also indicated that the media’s role in this democratic space is crucial—and it shouldn’t be reduced to passively waiting for politicians to dig up the facts.

“You are the fourth estate. The media has power. When I raise something, you dig further. That’s your job,” Fordjour reminded.

According to the MP, his comments have already sparked enough curiosity for other radio stations to begin their own investigations into the matter.

He also cited Parliament’s recess as a barrier to pushing the matter further from the legislative angle.

“Parliament is currently on break. There’s no opportunity for me to summon the Minister or demand answers on the floor. So right now, we all need to do our part—media included,” he added.

The alleged cocaine shipment on an aircraft has yet to be confirmed or denied officially, but Fordjour’s bold comments have stirred the waters, prompting many to demand clarity from the appropriate authorities.
