I’m proud of her fight – Dr. Zaato hails Torkornoo’s courage

Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr. Joshua Zaato, has applauded suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for her bold and dignified response to her ongoing impeachment process, calling her actions a mark of courage and integrity.
Dr. Zaato noted that Justice Torkornoo has demonstrated rare bravery by choosing to fight her removal openly, rather than retreating quietly in the face of pressure.
“I’m proud of her fight. She’s not just sitting back. She’s gone to the Supreme Court, she’s spoken to the public, and she’s inviting all of us into this very sensitive moment. That takes courage,” Dr. Zaato stated during a panel discussion on TV3’s KeyPoints on Saturday, .
He further praised her decision to take legal and public avenues in her defence, adding that her approach inspires confidence in Ghana’s democratic institutions.
“Even if she loses, she’s going down with her pride intact,” he added.
Justice Torkornoo has been at the centre of a heated impeachment motion that has drawn reactions from legal experts, civil society groups, and the public.
Her decision to challenge the process in court and make public comments has won her both criticism and praise — the latter, according to Dr. Zaato, is well deserved.
While the outcome of the process remains uncertain, Dr. Zaato believes her handling of the situation sets an important precedent for public officials under scrutiny.
Justice Torkornoo was suspended earlier this year following the filing of a petition seeking her removal.
