IMANI Africa’s Franklin Cudjoe questions sim card re-registration

Imani Africa’s Franklin Cudjoe has questioned the brain behind sim card re-registration slated for July.
He is of the view that there are other important things to do currently in the country, and SIM card registration can never be one of them.
Franklin Cudjoe called for an improvement in the sector and not a focus on sim re-registration.
Franklin Cudjoe espoused this position via social media, indicating that as a CSO, they will engage the minister for answers.
“What for? The Minister wants to register phones too? Don’t we have many difficult things to do to improve the sector? Is crime the first reason many procure sim cards and phones? We will be engaging the Minister for answers,” he asked.

The upcoming SIM card re-registration exercise in Accra, Ghana, is expected to be queue-free, thanks to a streamlined process designed to make registration more efficient and convenient for citizens.
The Minister for Communication, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), announced this during his visit to Margins ID Group (Intelligent Card Production Systems) in Accra today.
According to the Minister, Citizens will register their SIM cards online, reducing the need for physical visits to registration centers. The system will automatically verify citizen information, reducing manual processing times.
This streamlined process will save citizens time and improve accuracy, making the registration experience more convenient. With the June launch approaching, citizens can look forward to a hassle-free SIM card registration experience.
