India’s PM Modi to receive Ghana’s highest honour during state visit

As previously shared by MyNewsGh, Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will begin a two-day state visit to Ghana starting Tuesday, July 2, becoming the first Indian leader in 30 years to do so.

The visit is expected to strengthen the long-standing ties between the two nations.

As part of his itinerary, Prime Minister Modi will meet President John Dramani Mahama, engage with Parliament, and witness the signing of several bilateral agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across key sectors.

At the heart of the visit is a high-profile ceremony where Ghana will confer its highest national honour, the Order of the Star of Ghana, on Prime Minister Modi.

This prestigious award places him in the company of global figures such as former French President Jacques Chirac, Kenyan President William Ruto, and former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo—all past recipients of the honour.

The announcement of the award and visit was made by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, during a press briefing held on Monday, July 1, in Accra.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that Modi’s visit is a symbolic and strategic move aimed at deepening over 60 years of diplomatic and economic cooperation between Ghana and India.

It is also expected to open new doors for trade, infrastructure partnerships, technology exchange, and cultural collaboration.
