Inter-Agency Data Pricing Committee presents report; work being done to reduce data

Communications Minister Sam Nartey George has disclosed that the Inter-Agency Data Pricing Committee, given 14 days to produce a roadmap for the reduction of data cost in Ghana, has presented its report to the ministry.
He says instead of 14 days, the committee delivered in 13 days, and this report will serve as a roadmap for the reduction of data cost in Ghana.
According to Sam George, the ministry is currently engaging with all stakeholders to ensure that there are a fact-driven basis for the calls for data prices to reduce.
“I agree that data should be and can be cheaper; that is why I set up that data pricing committee and gave them a 14-day mandate, but they delivered their report in 13 days. Their report was a roadmap to achieving this. There are short-term and medium-term policy plans that we will put in place.
The regulator is currently working with the MNOS to roll out some of the short-term measures and quality of service that is part of the reasons why I granted MTN tech neutrality and granted them additional spectrum,” he told Channel 1 Television.
Meanwhile, on his social media platforms, the Minister added that he is committed to ensuring that data becomes cheaper in Ghana and also ensure that there is an improvement in the quality of services the citizens enjoy.
“Comprehensive work is ongoing with all our stakeholders to ensure we have a facts driven basis for our calls for data prices to be reduced. I believed so previously and I still do. As Minister, I remain committed to engaging all stakeholders and arriving at a conclusion that provides better quality of service at better pricing for the Ghanaian people”.
