Interior Minister bans movement of motorbikes, tricycles in Binduri

The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, has announced a ban on the use of motorbikes, tricycles, and ‘aboboyaa’ in Binduri Township and surrounding areas in the Upper East Region.
The directive applies to both men and women, with violators facing arrest and prosecution.
This decision follows a review of the curfew currently in place in Binduri, which has been set from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with immediate effect. The Minister issued the statement on Sunday, April 13, acting on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council and under the authority of an Executive Instrument.
In the statement, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and the youth in the area to remain calm and use peaceful and lawful means to address their concerns.
The government has also declared a complete ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in the township and its environs.
Additionally, men wearing smocks, which are sometimes associated with concealed weapons in conflict-prone areas, are prohibited. Anyone found in possession of weapons or wearing smocks in violation of this directive will be arrested and prosecuted.
“The government calls on the people of Binduri to exercise restraint amid the challenges they face and to work collectively towards maintaining peace in the area,” the statement emphasized.
