Interior Minister outlines key gains at Accountability Series

Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka has outlined major strides made by his ministry in the areas of national security, public service delivery, and legislative reform.

Muntaka offered what he described as a “comprehensive update” on the Ministry’s recent accomplishments speaking at the maiden edition of the Government of Ghana Accountability Series held at the Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, July 14.

“Earlier today, at the maiden edition of the Government of Ghana Accountability Series held at the Jubilee House in Accra, I had the honour of delivering a comprehensive update on the achievements of the Ministry of the Interior,” Muntaka shared in a Facebook post shortly after his address.

Among the highlights was a significant reduction in curfew-imposed areas across the country—a development the Minister attributed to effective dialogue and sustained peacebuilding efforts.

“The Ministry has successfully reduced the number of curfew-imposed areas in the country from 11 to 5, demonstrating improved dialogue, stability, and peacebuilding in previously affected communities,” he said.

He also underscored the Ministry’s role in pushing key legislative changes aimed at promoting inclusivity and preserving national identity.

“We spearheaded the amendment of the Public Holidays Act to include an extra day for Eid-ul-Fitr and restore July 1st as a national holiday, a move that strengthens inclusivity and preserves our national heritage,” Muntaka explained.

The Minister further announced progress in the digital transformation of the Ministry’s operations, aimed at boosting transparency and efficiency.

“We have initiated the digitalization of 16 core functions, including permit and license services, aimed at enhancing transparency, eliminating delays, and improving public access to services,” he revealed.

The Government Accountability Series is a new initiative designed to give the Ghanaian public regular updates on the performance of ministries, departments, and agencies.
