McDan’s warehouse demolished in sudden operation

A warehouse allegedly belonging to Ghanaian businessman Dr. Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, was pulled down on Monday night, July 28, along the Spintex Road in Accra. The demolition, which eyewitnesses say occurred without prior notice or explanation, has left affected workers frustrated and alarmed.

“We were here around 6:28 when the soldiers arrived with two pickups. We had no idea they were here to demolish the building.

“We begged them to allow us take our belongings and even our bed, but they refused, saying it was too late,” one worker narrated, describing how personnel believed to be from national security stormed the premises with bulldozers.

The man, who identified himself as a worker, revealed that he and his colleagues were not only storing goods in the warehouse but also sleeping there. He said their request to retrieve personal items was denied.

“This is where we sleep. We asked to take our things out, but they said no. They began demolishing, but the machine broke down midway, so they brought in more to continue,” he said.

According to the eyewitness, the situation grew even more tense when a colleague attempted to film the operation. “When one of my colleagues attempted to video the incident, he was assaulted by the military officers,” he claimed.

The demolition reportedly began at about 7:00 p.m., according to a report by UTV Ghana, although the reasons behind the exercise remain unclear. So far, no official statement has been issued to clarify the situation or confirm the involvement of national security operatives.
