Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has broken his silence on the Bawku conflict.

According to him, during the 2024 elections, the National Democratic Congress took advantage of the conflict to lie about him.

He says they told the people he had purchased weapons for one faction, which he belonged to, in order to kill the Kusasis, a claim that was never true.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia indicated that the people fell for the lie hook, line, and sinker, and that affected the NPP votes during the 2024 elections.

However, he noticed that the people of Bawku have come to appreciate the fact that the NDC lied on him and that he played no role in the conflict.

“Unfortunately, the NDC saw this conflict as an opportunity to play politics so they told a big lie on me. They said I had bought weapons for the Mamprusis to kill the Kusasis. That was a huge big lie and it impacted people’s thinking in terms of the elections. It made the Kusasi people angry. That was a big lie they told.

Only God makes things right and as of today the people of Bawku realize that the NDC lied to them. The NDC MPs in the Bawku zone are having a very tough time, they can’t go home. They are looking for them, after lying bout me, now they have to go home and answer and they are not willing to go home,” he said.

The former flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party indicated that he has been vindicated and that if elections were held today, the story will be different from what happened in the 2024 election.
