It’s clear that John Mahama will hand over power to me

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has boldly stated that history is on his side as he prepares to take over the reins of power from President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking during a highly publicised meeting with the immediate past Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) under the Akufo-Addo administration, Bawumia laid out what he described as a historical pattern in Ghana’s political transitions.

In his address, the former NPP flagbearer walked his audience through the country’s electoral timeline, suggesting that a natural political succession is unfolding—and it ends with him as president.

“Rawlings handed over power to Kufuor. They contested in 1996, isn’t it?” he began. “President Kufuor handed over power to who? Atta Mills. They contested again in 2000 and 2004, isn’t it?”

He continued, “And then Atta Mills unfortunately passed away and gave it to John Mahama, in terms of he was elected.

“But the Mills-Mahama government handed over power to who? Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whom Mahama had contested.”

Bawumia paused briefly, then delivered the punchline to loud applause: “And Nana Akufo-Addo has also handed power to who? To John Mahama, whom he contested. So now, who is John Mahama going to hand over power to? That is it.”

With confidence, he concluded, “It’s clear. It’s clear. John Mahama will hand over power to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. That is what is going to happen.”
