It’s not defiance, it’s health – Ibrahim Adjei defends Ken Ofori-Atta’s absence from OSP probe

Former Assistant Secretary to ex-President Akufo-Addo, Ibrahim Adjei, has come to the defence of Ken Ofori-Atta, insisting the former Finance Minister is not dodging the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) but is rather held back by medical challenges.

“He has to understand that it is not the unwillingness to travel, but the medical implications of travelling that are preventing Honourable Ken Ofori-Atta from coming,” Adjei explained during an interview on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, June 2.

There has been rising public speculation following Mr. Ofori-Atta’s inability to appear before the OSP as scheduled, with some suggesting he may be deliberately avoiding the probe. However, Adjei insists this narrative is unfair and inaccurate.

“At no point has he said he won’t come. He has communicated where he is and the treatment he is undergoing while the OSP is away,” he added.

Adjei further pointed out that the medical issue isn’t new or a last-minute excuse.

“Nobody can accuse him of a last-minute excuse. His medical situation predates the current request,” he stressed. “It’s really at the discretion of the OSP to say, given your circumstances, these are the issues we want you to answer, and he can do it.”
