It’s not enough to splash news in the media

Deputy Minister of Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini has expressed dissatisfaction with the operational output of the Office of the Special Prosecutor, citing delayed enforcement actions as a major concern.
The lawmaker referenced the unresolved matter involving the former Minister of Finance, questioning why months after a public declaration, enforcement appeared stagnant.
“I was quite disturbed that over three months after the former Minister of Finance was declared wanted, it didn’t seem to me that any effort had been made by the OSP to enforce that declaration,” he stated.
“It is not enough to just splash that news in the media and go to sleep.”
While acknowledging a recent indication that steps would be taken toward extradition, he stressed that timelines matter in corruption-related enforcement.
“I hope they will live up to that promise of providing the Attorney-General with the information,” he added.
Suhuyini insists that without measurable results, public trust will continue to erode; “So far, I am not very impressed with that office.”
His concern, he noted, stems from both the structure of the institution and the manner in which its mandate is being executed.
