It’s reasonable to say the money is ours – Martin Kpebu on Cecilia Dapaah’s wealth

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has reiterated his call for former Minister of Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, to explain the source of the large sums of money discovered in her home.

Speaking on TV3’s Keypoints, Kpebu argued that findings from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) indicate that she has been unable to justify how she acquired the funds.

“The OSPO investigations show that Cecilia Dapaah can’t explain the sources of her money. She should first answer where she got the money from. How did Cecilia Dapaah get the money? So far, she hasn’t explained,” he stated.

According to him, given her position as a government official, it is only reasonable to assume that the money could have come from public funds unless proven otherwise.

“She was a Minister and so if we see her with money, it is reasonable to say that it is our money,” he added.

The case surrounding Cecilia Dapaah’s unexplained wealth remains a major subject of public debate, with many calling for full accountability.

Meanwhile, during her testimony in court over the theft issue, Cecilia Abena Dapaah told the court that, aside from the monies stolen, the accused persons also took jewellery worth several thousand dollars.

I realized that a substantial number of my valuable clothes (sewn and unsewn), kente cloths, dresses, skirt suits, blouses, handbags, lace fabrics, and perfumes were all missing.

We also found out that huge sums of money had been stolen from our storeroom. This included an amount of $210,000, which belonged to my deceased brother, Nana Akwasi Essan II, alias Charles Dapaah.

“The $210,000 was part of an amount of $800,000 that my elder brother, Henry Osei Kwabena, brought to me upon the instructions of our mother for safekeeping, after Nana Akwasi Essan II’s demise.”
