It’s the law – IMANI President urges CJ to abandon legal fight

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has urged suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo to abandon her legal challenge, following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of her application to halt an ongoing investigation into her conduct.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue with Selorm Adonoo, Cudjoe remarked that the odds were clearly against Justice Torkornoo, and continuing the legal battle may be futile.

“At this juncture, my honest view is that she should just give up, because the way things are going, there’s no way [she will sail through]. She will be remembered in history that she fought. Maybe that is what she wants,” he said.

Justice Torkornoo, who is currently facing a presidential committee probing petitions for her removal, had sought an injunction to halt the work of the committee. However, the Supreme Court dismissed her application on Wednesday, May 28, clearing the way for the inquiry to proceed.

Commenting further, Cudjoe described her situation as both unfortunate and telling. “It’s a bit pity and sad for her to say that her husband and daughter should be allowed in.

“She should have negotiated with the Committee. If these basic things are denied, you should know that you are persona non grata already; you have overstayed your welcome.”

He added, “As brutal as the process may be, it is the law, the law is the law.”
