I’ve voted for both NDC and NPP – Gyampo clears the air

Professor Ransford Gyampo, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), has addressed public perceptions about his political alignment, making it clear that his loyalties lie not with any political party but with the welfare of Ghanaians.
In an interview with Channel One TV’s Bernard Avle monitored by MyNewsGh, Gyampo stated that he is not ideologically bound to any political tradition. Rather, his support has always aligned with policies that promote national interest, regardless of which political party proposes them.
“There is no ideological purity in Ghana today,” he noted. “I support what benefits Ghanaians—whether it falls under social democracy or any other framework.”
Reflecting on his voting history, the political science professor revealed a varied pattern. “I voted for Rawlings, then Kufuor, then Mills, and even Mahama. But I was also one of Mahama’s harshest critics before the 2016 elections,” he said.
He added that while he had high hopes for President Akufo-Addo in 2017, he was ultimately disappointed by his performance. “By 2020, I felt he had lost it. His governance, in my view, has been the worst in the Fourth Republic.”
Despite these strong views, Gyampo stressed that his decision to accept the GSA role was not politically motivated. “It’s about nation-building,” he explained. “If you believe you have the ideas to help, it becomes sabotage if you refuse to serve when called upon.”
Now leading the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, Gyampo said his focus is on aligning the institution’s goals with national development and rallying staff to deliver effectively under a shared vision.
From academic critic to executive leader, Gyampo’s new role marks a shift he embraces with humility—committed, he says, to serving the country above political affiliation.
