Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang meets EU ambassador to strengthen partnerships

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has reiterated the need for stronger, fairer, and more forward-looking international partnerships following a meeting with the European Union’s Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach.
In a statement shared on social media abd sighted by MyNewsGh, she said the engagement focused on redefining cooperation in light of global shifts.
“I welcomed H.E. Rune Skinnebach, Ambassador of the European Union to Ghana, to my office for a constructive meeting,” she said, adding that their discussion highlighted “the importance of true partnerships, especially in the face of a rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape.”
According to her, future collaboration must be grounded in careful evaluation of previous arrangements.
“As we move forward, it is essential to review past agreements, address existing gaps, and build cooperation on equity, respect, and shared strategic interests.”
She noted that issues of stability dominated the conversation.
“Peace and security were central to our exchange. Peace is the cornerstone of progress, and adopting a preventative approach to security challenges is more effective, sustainable, and far less costly than reactive measures,” she stated.
She further stressed that achieving this requires “collective commitment, early action, and strong institutional collaboration.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also pointed to emerging continental opportunities, particularly under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
“I spoke about the opportunities emerging within Africa in the face of current geopolitical challenges, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“Ghana remains fully prepared to harness the AfCFTA’s potential and strengthen her role as a hub for regional trade and integration.”
