Jean Mensa to face Parliament over Ablekuma North election stalemate

Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, is expected to appear before Parliament next week to address lingering questions over the unresolved parliamentary results in the Ablekuma North constituency.
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga made the announcement on Friday, June 13, noting that the EC boss will answer two key questions during a Committee of the Whole session.
“The Electoral Commission will be asked two questions, so the EC Chair will appear before the Committee of the Whole,” Ayariga stated.
The Ablekuma North seat has remained vacant since January 2025 due to an inconclusive outcome from the December 2024 elections.
Just days ago, Minority MPs marched to the Police Headquarters to petition the IGP over the delay.
Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh Dompreh stressed the constitutional implications, saying, “The absence of a declared MP for Ablekuma North constitutes a serious violation of the constitutional right to representation.”
He also urged the police to ensure adequate security for the EC to finalize and declare the results without further delay.
