Journalists from JoyNews, TV3, GH-One Grab ‘Juicy’ Govt Jobs; Others Lobby Hard

List of journalists grabbing government of Ghana jobs has increased since the John Mahama Administration came into power with letters issued out.

The latest to join the ranks include Lantam Papanko, a journalist with GhOne TV who has officially assumed a role as Corporate Affairs Manager of the Ghana Publishing Company. 

Another journalist who has also secured a government job is Paa Kwasi Asare of Media General brand TV3.  The BBC Komla Dumor Award Winner has quietly joined the Bank of Ghana’s Communications Department since the NDC assumed power. 

Other journalists with government jobs include Raymond Acquah, who was appointed by Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson as a technical advisor on media and communication. He has since locked his social media profiles following probes. 

Mr. Acquah’s mate at Joy News, Emefa Apawu has also joined the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) as its new Corporate Affairs Manager. 

Reports confirmed by MyNewsGh.com showed  more journalists names withheld are reportedly working on receiving their appointment letters at the GNPC Foundation, GNPC, NPRA, BOST, NPA, among other places. 

In the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration, several journalists secured lucrative jobs and board appointments and faced backlash. They were accused of doing the bidding of the Akufo-Addo administration while pretending to be neutral. 

Under Akufo-Addo, Kwabena Yeboah, the ace sports journalist and president of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) got appointed as a board member of the Free Zones Authority. 

He was later appointed to the board of the Ghana Airport company. Paul Adom Otchere, another journalist was the Board Chairman. 

On top of the journalist appointees of President Akufo-Addo is Kwame Sefa Kayi who was appointed to the National Petroleum Authority Board as a member. He is a host of Peace FM Kokrokoo, a program the NDC continues to boycott due to its alleged bias against the party.

Fiifi Boafo

Fiifi Boafo temporarily quit his job at Oman FM for a new appointment at Ghana COCOBOAD as manager in charge of the CEO’s office at the company in 2017. Oman FM is said to have granted Boafo years of leave to enable him take up the COCOBOD job.

Malik Daabu

Mr. Malik Daabu who for years was a known figure at Multimedia Joy FM joined the Ghana Maritime Authority as the head of Public Relations. Until his new role at the Ghana Maritime Authority, he was the editor of the online department Joy FM. He also served as Joy FM’s in-house political analyst and was also moved to head the investigative desk following the resignation of Manasseh Azure Awuni from the Multimedia group.

Late Kwabena Kwakye

Kwabena Kwakye who worked as an Oman FM Parliamentary and Presidential correspondent was appointed to the board of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) in 2017. Kwabena Kwakye was also the host of the popular Boiling Point political talk programme aired on Accra based Oman FM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 

Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo

Akufo-Addo’s appointed columnist and Director of Newspapers of Graphic Communications Group Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo as a Presidential staffer and later to the NMC’s Board. 

Kwaku Sakyi Addo

Kwaku Addo Sakyi-Addo was appointed by Akufo-Addo as the Chairman of the Board of the National Communications Authority.

Egbert Faibille

Lawyer Egbert Faibille who was the CEO of the Petroleum Commission was at one time a renowned journalist with a newspaper to his name.  Egbert Faibille was appointed Chief Executive officer of the National Petroleum Commission by President Akufo-Addo in April 2017.
