Judge delays plea bargain talks in NSB trial until full disclosures are filed

Justice John Nyadu Nyante, the presiding judge in the trial of former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director Kwabena Adu Boahene, has directed that any discussions of a possible plea bargain can only begin after the prosecution has completed full disclosures to the defence.

The directive came during a court sitting on Monday after the prosecution requested more time to file key documents in the case. Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, attributed the delay to the unavailability of a lead investigator, who has reportedly been unwell. He told the court that the investigator is expected to be available by Friday, May 30, 2025.

In response, the court set a firm deadline, ordering that all disclosures must be filed and served on the defense by Monday, June 2.

Although Justice Nyante did not elaborate publicly on his decision, it followed a private conference held at the request of Dr. Srem-Sai, involving the judge and lead defense counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea.

The case, which involves allegations of misconduct and possible financial infractions during Boahene’s tenure as NSB Director, has been adjourned to June 11 for a case management conference.
