Junior doctors suspend planned strike after talks with Health Ministry

The Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has announced the suspension of its planned nationwide withdrawal of services following engagements and assurances from the Ministry of Health and other relevant stakeholders.
The JDA said the decision was taken “as a gesture of goodwill and in the interest of uninterrupted healthcare delivery,” in a press release dated October 6, 2025, and signed by the association’s President, Dr. (Med) Louisa Afia Nkrumah, and General Secretary, Dr. (Med) Rhoda Wun-nam Amadu.
According to the association, the suspension allows the government time to implement its commitments made during discussions.
The JDA, however, emphasized that it would “closely monitor progress on these matters” and warned that any delays or failure to meet agreed timelines would trigger a reinstatement of the industrial action without further notice.
“We remain committed to the health of Ghanaians but stress that the welfare and dignity of junior doctors cannot be compromised,” the statement added.
The association expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, the public, and the media for their support and understanding during the period of negotiations.
