KEDA Ghana Ceramics accused of failing to remit SSNIT contributions for 4,000 employees

A former Human Resource and Corporate Affairs Director of KEDA Ghana Ceramics Company Limited—formerly Twyford—has petitioned key Ghanaian institutions demanding urgent investigations into the company’s alleged failure to remit statutory Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions.
Dr. David Yevugah’s petition, addressed to SSNIT, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and the Office of the President, accuses the Chinese-owned tile manufacturer based in the Shama District of withholding mandatory SSNIT payments for approximately 4,000 employees between 2016 and 2023.
Copies of the petition were also sent to the Finance Minister, the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, and the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
According to Dr. Yevugah, “KEDA Ghana Ceramics Company Limited refused to remit the mandatory 13.5% SSNIT contributions for its employees, in clear breach of Act 766.
This was not due to oversight or financial difficulty; it was a calculated corporate strategy to maximise profits at the expense of Ghanaian workers’ futures.”
He has called for a forensic audit of the company’s financial records and urged authorities to take legal action against KEDA.
The petition specifically points to Managing Director Lorry Lei as the key figure behind the alleged deliberate exploitation and evasion tactics.
The allegations, if proven, could have serious implications for the company and highlight ongoing challenges related to workers’ rights and corporate governance in Ghana’s manufacturing sector.
