Kennedy Agyapong is the NDC’s greatest fear – Forson

Tema Central MP, Hon. Charles Forson, has publicly thrown his support behind Kennedy Agyapong’s return to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race, stating that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) considers Agyapong its biggest threat ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Forson said Kennedy Agyapong remains the most relatable and grounded candidate within the NPP, with strong appeal across various segments of society.

“He appeals to the Ghanaian. He is a grassroots man; everybody knows that. Look at November 4, 2023 — all the odds were against him,” Forson said, referring to Agyapong’s performance in the NPP’s previous internal contest.

Forson stressed that Agyapong’s understanding of practical economics resonates with the average Ghanaian.

“Go to the marketplace, sit in a trotro, visit the banking hall, talk to the market woman — they will tell you he knows real economics, not book economics,” he said.

The Tema Central MP questioned why the party should wait if there is already a clear demand for Agyapong to lead the NPP into the next elections.

“Everybody is saying bring Kennedy Agyapong and the NPP will win in 2028, so why wait?”

Forson also pointed out the absence of an internal mechanism to suppress popular choices within the party and argued that Agyapong is in a strong position to win.

“Now, with no mechanism in place to whip people in line, I must say he is going to win,” he added.

He concluded by stating that the NPP should not ignore the level of public support Agyapong commands, describing him as both a threat to the NDC and a potential solution to Ghana’s leadership challenges.
