Kissi Agyebeng shielded Mahama in Airbus scandal and sabotaged NPP campaign — Maurice Ampaw

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has accused Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng of undermining the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) anti-corruption campaign efforts by failing to take decisive action on the Airbus scandal involving former President John Mahama.

According to Ampaw, the NPP’s 2024 election messaging around corruption was significantly weakened because Agyebeng allegedly hesitated and eventually “declared Mahama clean,” a decision he claims robbed the party of a strong campaign weapon.

“The NPP was campaigning that Mahama was corrupt because of the air buses scandal,” Ampaw stated. “But Kissi Agyebeng could not do anything about it. He should have taken action immediately. Instead, he declared Mahama clean, so we could not do a thorough campaign against him.”

Ampaw accused Agyebeng of acting under the influence of the NDC, asserting that his posture in the Airbus case was “uncertain,” “hesitant,” and “politically compromised.”

He argued that the Special Prosecutor’s behaviour contrasted sharply with his aggressive approach toward NPP appointees, which he said gave the impression of selective justice.

“When it comes to NPP people, he is very energetic,” Ampaw claimed. “But with the Airbus case, he didn’t know whether to do it or not.”

Ampaw said this inconsistency contributed to the political imbalance that played out in the months leading to the election and has now resurfaced in the ongoing calls for Agyebeng’s removal.

He insisted that the controversies within the OSP reflect a pattern of selective enforcement of the law that erodes public trust and deepens political divisions.

“Now that the NDC feels threatened, they want him out,” Ampaw said. “But when he was going after NPP appointees, they were all applauding him.”
