Forget about ‘respect’ and focus on an artiste’s talent’ – Article Wan tells Ghanaians

Ghanaian artiste, Article Wan has suggested a shift in how the public and music industry persons treat and perceive artistes, urging Ghanaians to prioritize artiste’s talent over their character.
In an interview on Monday, February 10, 2025, Article Wan argued that character is part of their craft as artistes, hence their talent cannot be overlooked merely because of their character.
“Ghana is mostly into respect, respect but I think it’s time we have to forget the artiste’s character and draw another agenda of pushing the artiste’s talent regardless because art is character.
“The nation should forget about the character…I feel the character is part of the job,” he said on Hitz FM.
Article Wan referenced his “Godfather”, Shatta Wale appreciating his talent despite the public perception about his ‘bad’ character.
“My own God father Shatta, people say he has character. His character is part of his job such that he’s been singled out. If you try his style, people could tell you are trying to be like him. We need to focus on the talent and forget the character,” he stated.
However, he disagreed with any perception that character should be allowed to cause a rot in the system.
“No, I think we should balance it. The truth is handling a very characteristic person will be very difficult.”
