Kpandai MP, Matthew Nyindam calls for calm amid the ongoing election dispute

The Member of Parliament(MP) for Kpandai, Hon. Matthew Nyindam, has addressed residents of the constituency, urging calm, unity, and peaceful conduct as the legal challenge over the 2024 parliamentary results continues.

Speaking to the chiefs, elders, youth, and the general public, Hon. Nyindam expressed gratitude for their support and confidence, saying, “I thank the people of Ghana, and I thank the good people of Kpandai, the leaders, the kings, and the entire community.”

He appealed for divine guidance in the ongoing political process. “All I want to tell the people of Kpandai is that God should touch everybody’s heart to vote for me, because I stand for peace,” he said.

The Kpandai parliamentary election has been the subject of tension in recent months after the High Court overturned the initial election results following a petition by the opposing camp. The ruling triggered demonstrations by sections of the youth who felt the decision did not reflect the will of the electorate.

The MP’s team has since filed an appeal, seeking to overturn the High Court’s judgment. The case is now before the Court of Appeal, with indications that it may proceed to the Supreme Court should the need arise.

Addressing recent protests, Nyindam called on the youth to avoid violence and conduct themselves responsibly. “The youth who are demonstrating should do it peacefully,” he urged. “I want peace and harmony in Kpandai.”

He reiterated his confidence in the voters’ mandate and the judicial process. “We were dissatisfied with the High Court ruling, so we have taken the case to the Appeal Court, and from there, we will take it to the Supreme Court, hoping that the truth will prevail,” he stated.

“I know I won the election that was held in Kpandai. I am grateful, and I know you can do more in the upcoming election.”

Nyindam also dismissed rumours of vote manipulation. “No one should think there was thievery of votes in the previous election; there was none,” he said, adding that although current occurrences are setbacks, they will “sail through.”

He expressed optimism about the future and the constituency’s development. “I want the best for Kpandai. The people have trust in me and have sent me to lead them because they know my capabilities. All these things should happen in peace,” he noted.

The MP concluded with a message of hope and confidence. “Victory will be ours at the end of the election. Let’s do all it takes peacefully so we can win.”
