KsTU sets up committee to probe staff degrees from unrecognised universities

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has announced the constitution of a committee to probe degrees held by some staff from universities recently listed as unrecognised by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
In a press release dated December 15, 2025, the Governing Council said the committee was set up to examine GTEC’s directives and a petition filed against the Vice-Chancellor over a PhD obtained from one of the affected institutions.
“The Governing Council wishes to inform the general public, especially our stakeholders, that a committee has been constituted to interrogate the directives of GTEC on staff holding degrees from some ‘unrecognised universities’,” the university stated.
The Council added that the committee is currently reviewing the petition and assured stakeholders that further steps would be taken to protect the institution’s standing. “Council will take other necessary steps to ensure that the University’s integrity and reputation are upheld,” the statement said.
KsTU also appealed for calm as the process continues. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our stakeholders as we work to resolve this matter in a fair and transparent manner,” the university noted.
