Kumasi candlelight vigil for Daddy Lumba postponed indefinitely

The Creative Arts Agency has announced the indefinite postponement of the Kumasi edition of the candlelight vigil in honour of the late music legend, Daddy Lumba.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2025, the event has been called off as a mark of respect for the eight individuals who died in a recent helicopter crash.
The decision aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration of three days of national mourning from August 7 to 9, 2025, in honour of the victims.
In a press statement dated Thursday, August 7, and signed by Acting Executive Secretary Gideon Aryeequaye, the Agency expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation, noting that this is a moment for unity and reflection.
The planned Kumasi gathering was set to follow a successful vigil at the Independence Square in Accra on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
That event drew hundreds of fans, fellow musicians, and dignitaries who came together to celebrate the life and legacy of one of Ghana’s most influential music icons.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness, at the age of 60. His music career, spanning decades, shaped Ghana’s Highlife scene and inspired generations of artists and fans.
