Kurt Okraku brushes off third-term speculation

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has downplayed speculation about whether he will run for a third term in office, saying it is “premature” to discuss his political future within the sport.
“This is premature. We have almost two and a half years to serve the Ghanaian game, and when the time comes, I will make a decision—just like many others who may be eligible to contest,” Okraku told journalists.
His remarks come on the heels of Congress’ approval of an amendment at its 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram, which extended the GFA presidential term limit from two terms to three.
The change has sparked debate over whether Okraku will remain in charge beyond his current mandate.
The GFA boss emphasized that the focus should be on capitalizing on new opportunities in Ghana’s domestic game rather than speculating about leadership changes.
“What should be a topic is how we handle the new wind blowing around our domestic game, the high level of investment the FA has secured to make it a reality, and how well our clubs can respond to the current situation as we work to develop the Ghanaian game,” he said.
Okraku’s current term runs for another two and a half years, and he insists that developing the sport, improving infrastructure, and supporting clubs remain his top priorities.
