Kwesi Pratt highlights unpaid NPP staff and party leadership crisis

Kwesi Pratt has painted a troubling picture of the New Patriotic Party’s internal challenges, revealing frustrations over unpaid salaries and raising questions about leadership direction.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, monitored by MyNewsGH, Pratt pointed to growing dissatisfaction among party workers at the headquarters.

“Yesterday, I read a newspaper report by some members of the party who are screaming that they are working at the headquarters, not at the constituency, and haven’t been paid for some time,” he said.

He added that the grievances were openly shared on social media by affected members. “One of them actually put on his social media page that you haven’t paid us, we are working for no pay, and yet you’ve been able to mobilize resources for a Thank You Tour. The person didn’t understand this.”

While Pratt did not delve into why the payments had stopped, he hinted, “I have some ideas but I’m not going to say them publicly.”

Turning to the leadership structure, Pratt explained that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s role within the NPP has fundamentally changed following the elections.

“The leader of the party now is Mr. Stephen Ntim, National Chairman. He’s always been leader during election time. Even when you’re in government, he’s still the leader.”

Pratt emphasized that Dr. Bawumia now holds the same status as others vying for future presidential candidacy.

“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is no longer the candidate of the party. In fact, he’s in the same position as all the others that we hear want to be presidential candidates.”

He suggested that with the elections behind them, the party should be focusing on long-term preparations, remarking, “The party ought to be looking at election twenty twenty-eight.”
