Lady shares new MoMo fraud alert after sister loses savings

What began as an unexpected act of love turned into a devastating financial loss for one Ghanaian woman — all because of a clever scam disguised as a surprise food delivery.

In a video shared online, a distraught woman recounted how her sister became the latest victim of a new and highly deceptive Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud scheme.

Her voice, though composed, carried the weight of someone who had watched a loved one lose everything.

According to her, the scam started with a call. The person on the other end claimed to be a delivery agent, holding a special surprise package — pizza, supposedly sent by someone who cared.

“They call you and tell you someone who loves you has sent you pizza,” she said. “They’ll say the sender wants to remain anonymous and all they need is to confirm your identity by sending you a short code.”

That “short code” turned out to be the trap. By forwarding the code, her sister unknowingly handed over access to her mobile wallet — and in seconds, her entire MoMo balance vanished. But it didn’t end there.

“Immediately you send the code, they drain your MoMo. If your bank account is linked to it, they clear that too,” she warned.

The experience has left the family shaken. Her sister’s entire savings — both in her wallet and bank — were wiped out in the blink of an eye. The shock of it all is still fresh, but the woman felt a sense of duty to speak up, to prevent others from falling into the same trap.

Her message is simple but urgent: Don’t fall for it.

“Please, if anyone calls you with such stories about surprise deliveries, don’t believe them. Don’t give out any code they send to your phone. That’s how they enter your account,” she said.
