Launch of Code of Conduct signals the death of State Capture

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa holds the view that the launch of a Code of Conduct for Government Officials signals the death of state capture.

Ghana’s president, John Dramani Mahama, as part of his 120-day social contract with the Ghanaian people, launched the Code of Conduct for his appointees.

This code of conduct will guard and guide how appointees conduct themselves as public officers.

Reacting to the launch, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a post shared via social media, said that as part of the code of conduct, appointees cannot buy state assets either directly or indirectly, signaling a win for his advocacy against state capture while in opposition.

His position expressed via a social media post said “Great news for Ghana.

President Mahama has today launched a Code of Conduct for government officials which prohibits appointees from buying state assets either directly or indirectly.

President Mahama made clear that appointees who violate this code will be fired and the asset retrieved.

State assets have been defined to include lands, bungalows, hotels, cars, forests etc.

I am absolutely delighted that our crusade in opposition has not been abandoned and that we are keeping faith with the Ghanaian people and our conscience.

This new Code of Conduct gives further impetus to my Private Member’s Bill currently in Parliament seeking to ban politically exposed persons from purchasing state assets.

State Capture is dead!

God bless President Mahama”.
