Lawyer labels Health Minister “Epitome of Ignorance” over comments on essential health supplies

Private legal practitioner Godlove Tenkorang Adjei has launched a strong critique against Ghana’s Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, describing him as the “epitome of ignorance” following the minister’s recent comments about the relevance of certain health-related materials.
Speaking on Angel FM, Lawyer Tenkorang Adjei expressed disappointment over the minister’s reported claim that condoms, needles, textbooks and mosquito nets were not essential materials in the health delivery chain.
“I am very sad because Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh is the epitome of ignorance,” he said. “For a Health Minister to say that, condoms, needles, textbooks and mosquito nets are not essential materials makes him ignorant.”
The lawyer argued that Ghana continues to battle significant health challenges such as malaria and HIV/AIDS, adding that such materials are crucial to national health interventions and public education.
He questioned the Minister’s stance on the use of medical drones under the Zipline programme, suggesting that even if the drones were repurposed to deliver items such as condoms, mosquito nets, needles or textbooks to underserved communities, they would still be fulfilling an important public health function.
“Is this what the minister is referring to as a needless objective? And that he wants to cancel the contract?” he asked.
Tenkorang Adjei went further to criticize the Minister’s competence, stating that his background did not align with the demands of the health sector.
“It is not surprising; he was a dining hall prefect. Food and health are not in association. That is why he does not understand what he is doing,” he added.
The lawyer lamented what he described as the increasing politicisation of national programmes, which he believes undermines the implementation of beneficial policies.
“We have politicised everything in this country, so even if we have good policies, they use politics to destroy them,” he said.
