Leadership must also make sacrifices—Mahama on why fuel allowances for appointees have been cut

President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has acknowledged that if the government is calling on the people to make sacrifices, then leadership must also make sacrifices.
He made this known while announcing that he has scrapped fuel allowances for political appointees.
The President, according to the statement announcing the cut, said it’s important because the money saved will be invested in other priority areas to aid in Ghana’s development.
Since taking over power on January 7, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama has taken several measures to cut cost.
He reduced the number of ministers and presidential staffers and cut the payment for satellite TV subscriptions in government agencies and the presidency.
