Leave the schools for the owners

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church, has strongly condemned recent calls by some Muslim groups in Kwara State for female students in mission schools to be allowed to wear the hijab.

The famed Nigerian cleric and televangelist described the demand as a clear overstep, likening it to “a tenant decreeing for the landlord.” He expressed astonishment at the move, saying:

“Such a nasty development in Kwara State, where Muslims are asking for their students in our schools to wear hijab. And the church said, no. I’ve never seen a place in my life where a tenant will be decreeing for the landlord. I’ve never seen.”

He went on to explain that the church’s authority over its schools should not be questioned or undermined.

“Leave the schools for the owner. Go to your school. Men and women can wear hijab there. Stop putting your finger in the eyes of others when they are not blind,” Oyedepo added during a church service.

The bishop framed the issue as part of a broader spiritual battle, warning of the consequences for systems or institutions that disregard God’s authority.

“The church is a temple. The church is a time bomb. When God turns his back on anybody or any system, that system is grounded. That system is cursed,” he said.

Oyedepo also used the sermon to call for divine justice against criminal activities in the country, including kidnappings, ritual killings, and attacks on livelihoods:

“The literal killers and their faith sons or faith sonnages, let judgment come down. The kidnappers are those who buy human beings. Let your judgment come down on them. The fool and the heartless men invading people’s food and destroying the labor of their hands. Let your judgment come on their heads,” he prayed.

The bishop concluded by urging congregants to unite in prayer and stay aligned with the values of the church.
