Lessons from Past Leaders Guide Me in Parliament

Minority Leader and MP for Effutu, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has highlighted the importance of patience, teamwork, and learning from history to effectively navigate parliamentary responsibilities.
He made the remark on Kokrokoo on Peace FM 104.3 on November 26, 2025.
Markin explained that he draws lessons from the experiences of former minority leaders such as J. H. Mensah, Alban Bagbin, and Kyei Mensah Bonsu, noting that their paths were far from easy.
“I refer to history to learn and read about ex-minority leaders to enhance my performance. I know about the challenges, and I will do my best to overcome them,” he said.
Having worked closely with Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonsu as a backbencher, Markin said he has gained valuable insights, which he now applies in his leadership role.
He encouraged his team to remain patient and work collaboratively, stressing that progress cannot be achieved in isolation.
“With the goal ahead of us, if we work in isolation, it will not help. We have to come together as a team to achieve our goal,” he added.
The Minority Leader also commended his team for their efforts in Parliament, particularly their contributions to the ongoing budget debates, highlighting their dedication and performance.
