Let’s work together to ensure industrial harmony – Western Regional Minister urges labour unions

Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson has called on labour unions to join forces with the government and other stakeholders to enhance Ghana’s working environment.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between labour unions and the government to achieve harmonious industrial development
Minister Nelson’s appeal highlights the need for a unified approach to address the country’s labour challenges.
“What the TUC stands for I believe is noble, because your activities and mandate contributes to industrial harmony,” he said.
The Minister praised the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for its vital role in protecting workers’ rights and ensuring peace and stability in Ghana. He made these remarks while meeting with Richard Hanson, the Acting General Secretary of TUC in the Western Region, who paid him a courtesy call to discuss the union’s activities.
Minister Nelson acknowledged the TUC’s efforts in promoting workers’ welfare and contributing to the country’s development.
“What the TUC stands for I believe is noble. “You ensure that the interest of workers is protected” he acknowledged.
In doing so, he said the TUC has been very helpful in streamlining employer- and employee relationships “so that we have a certain harmonious environment at workplaces.”
Turning his attention on ongoing industrial disputes lingering in the region, the Minister said employers whether in the public or private sector also need to respect the rights of workers.
“They also have the responsibility to do what is right because we want to have a peaceful environment to operate so that all parties will be happy” he remarked
For support required to enhance operational activities of the union, Joseph Nelson assured the TUC boss of his commitment to collaborate effectively with them to function as expected of them.
Mr Richard Hanson expressed gratitude to the Minister for hosting him. He appealed to the Minister to support the TUC acquire a permanent office space in Sekondi Takoradi.
In addition, he said TUC will also want him to build a good working relationship with the union.
He cited few industrial issues currently lingering in the region and appealed to the Minister to intervene in resolving the issue and getting justice for the parties involved.
As part of their traditional role, the TUC used to be part of Regional Security Council (REGSEC) but got kicked out along the line which the union wants reversed.
