Loss of Omane Boamah, others deeply felt — Defence Committee reacts

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior has issued a statement mourning the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of the Minister of Defence, three service personnel, and four other dignitaries on August 6, 2025. The accident occurred in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The Committee extended its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and joined the nation in mourning the loss of:

  1. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
  2. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology
  3. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
  4. Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
  5. Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO
  6. Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
  7. Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu
  8. Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

Acknowledging the profound impact of the loss on the nation’s military leadership, the Committee expressed solidarity with the bereaved families, the Government, Parliament, Ghana Armed Forces, and all Ghanaians during this difficult time.

The Committee also applauded the swift multi-agency investigation initiated by the Ghana Armed Forces to determine the cause of the crash.

They committed to thoroughly reviewing the findings and offering recommendations to improve aviation safety, operational protocols, and crisis response across the security sector.
