Macho men disrupt Ablekuma North rerun

The Electoral Commission’s rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency on Friday, July 11, was marred by chaos after unidentified macho men stormed a polling centre, halting the voting process and leaving the atmosphere tense.
The rerun, held in 19 polling stations, was meant to resolve a protracted electoral dispute from the December 7, 2024 general elections, and to restore parliamentary representation to a constituency that has lacked an MP for months.
Eyewitnesses say the attackers arrived in a highly coordinated manner, sparking panic among voters and officials.
Voting was brought to a standstill as security forces rushed in to regain control of the situation.
Amid the turmoil, NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie was reportedly assaulted, according to Channel One News’s Jude Duncan.
The extent of her injuries remains unclear.
