Mahama appoints Matilda Asante-Asiedu as Second Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
The appointment, made in accordance with Section 17 of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612) as amended, marks a significant addition to the leadership of Ghana’s central bank.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu, a Chartered Banker and accomplished corporate executive, brings a wealth of experience to her new role.
Prior to her appointment, she served as Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana PLC, where she played a pivotal role in expanding the bank’s retail banking operations.
An alumna of several prestigious institutions, Mrs. Asante-Asiedu holds an MBA in Marketing from the GIMPA Business School (2021) and an MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University (2005).
She also holds diplomas in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (1997) and in Politics and Public Affairs Reporting from the International Institute of Journalism in Berlin (2000).
In addition to her academic qualifications, Mrs. Asante-Asiedu attained the status of Chartered Executive Banker from the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB-Ghana) in 2024.
She has also sharpened her leadership skills through executive programmes at top institutions such as Said Business School at Oxford University (2023), the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (2015), and Marquette University’s Les Aspin Centre for Government (2003).
Her appointment is expected to strengthen the Bank of Ghana’s management team, bringing fresh perspectives and a wealth of industry knowledge to the central bank as it navigates Ghana’s evolving financial and economic landscape.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu is widely respected for her leadership, innovative thinking, and commitment to excellence, and her appointment has been widely welcomed across Ghana’s banking and financial sector.
