Since the NDC came to power, there have been several reports of a takeover of some protected forest reserves by some members of the NDC.

Erastus Asare Donkor, who has been a leading voice in the fight against illegal mining has severally provided evidence to the effect that galamsey is still prevalent regardless of efforts being made to curb it.

In a post shared via social media, Manasseh Azure was candid that if the president wants the invation of forest reserves stopped he has the power to do that.

His post read “If President Mahama wants all galamsey operators to leave the forests in two weeks, he CAN do it. He CAN ensure that it is done.”

The fight against illegal mining became very topical during the 2024 campaign.

The then-opposition political party National Democratic Congress (NDC) blamed the New Patriotic Party for engaging in it.
